Worthing Lions Activities

Worthing Lions Club organises and is involved in numerous activities throughout the year.

Worthing Lions Club is involved in numerous charitable and social activities throughout the year.

Our main events arethe Worthing Lions Festival during July (particularly the last weekend), 5th November firework display, Christmas Tree Street Collections, Town Centre collections, Car Boot Sales etc.

We also hold social activities with theatre trips, social get togethers and social club meals.

We assist other charities by running race nights and marshalling sponsored walks. We give financial assistance and practical support to the likes of Sussex Squids disabled swimming group, we support British Legion Poppy Appeal and assist in a West Sussex disabled sports day.

Our charity shop is staffed by many Lions (and friends) and we do occasional house clearance to help ‘stock’ our shop which continually raises money for those less fortunate.

We collect spectacles and hearing aids through our shop and local optician businesses to give to third world countries.

We also support Lions Nationally and Internationally. We have packed shoeboxes with essential survival items for orphans in Belarus. We also donate to international disaster funds, support immunisation and water projects, support Sight First projects in third world countries and support Lions International Blood Research (LIBRA) in London.

These activities help give financial assistance to predominately local projects and help support the local community.

As if this is not enough, in 1930 it was the Lions that introduced the white cane to aid the sight impaired. Now the Dutch Lions are developing a GPS or Surface Scanning Sensor Cane thus keeping up with cutting edge technology.

Dementia - Worthing Lions have become 'Dementia Friends'.
